Prospect of DPRK's Tourist Industry: Vice General Director of National Tourism Administration

Pyongyang, June 17 (KCNA) -- Ri Jong Hyok, vice general director of the National Tourism Administration in the DPRK, told KCNA that mountain and coastal tourism is promising in the country, and went on:
Our country has a mountainous area of nearly 80 percent of the territory and is very abundant in mountain and coastal tourist resources as it is bounded by the seas on both sides of the east and the west.
In particular, the grand nature in the area of Mt Paektu is a tourist resource we can be proud of. If we build a tourist resort in the world-famous Mt Paektu, we will make great progress in developing the country's tourist industry.
On the east coast, there are many beautiful scenic spots including Mts Kumgang and Chilbo, Majon, Kumya, Riwon and Yombunjin. If we use these rich tourist resources rationally, we will be able to exploit in a unique manner the resources of tourism for sports, leisure activities and marine sightseeing.
If we exploit the mountain and coastal tourist resources in conformity with the natural and geographical features of the country, we can develop the tourist industry in a far-sighted way.
The work to wonderfully build the Mt Paektu tourist resort and the Kalma coastal resort into the places enjoyed by our people and foreigners has been propelled under the care of the state.
Ri Jong Hyok said that he would fulfill his responsibility and duty in developing the tourist industry to make the people enjoy a higher civilized life to the full and in expanding and developing multifaceted exchange and cooperation with other countries. -0-
