Thai Anti-Graft Body to Probe PM Paetongtarn Over Ethics Complaint

Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has unanimously voted to investigate Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra for alleged serious ethical misconduct.

The probe follows an audio clip purportedly showing Paetongtarn conversing with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen about the Thai-Cambodian border dispute. Senate President Mongkol Surasajja submitted the complaint on June 20.

The NACC will transcribe and translate the audio, interview witnesses, and compare the case to former PM Srettha Thavisin's ethics disqualification. It will also check if the Constitutional Court has accepted a related petition.

After initial fact-finding, the NACC committee may establish an inquiry panel. If the allegations are found credible, Paetongtarn will be informed to present her defense before a final finding on the alleged misconduct.
