Candidate for Bulgaria PM Borisov supports to build Belene NPP
SOFIA, July 13 (Itar-Tass) -- An informal leader of the People for
European Development of Bulgaria, Boiko Borisov, who is running for
premiership in the country, called for building the Belene nuclear power
plant. The People for European Development of Bulgaria Party has won at
the parliamentary elections in Bulgaria.
Borisov said in an interview with the New Television TV channel on
Sunday that the European Commission supported an initiative to build the
foresaid nuclear power plant, and if chances to build a new nuclear power
plant are missed this will be a crime against the state.
"As soon as we form a government and draft a budget, we will
immediately find an opportunity to build the Belene nuclear power plant.
It would be wrong to lose the permission of the European Commission to
build a nuclear power plant," Borisov said.
He also noted that "Bulgaria will benefit from the construction of the
Nabucco gas pipeline." Borisov also supported the plans to sign an
agreement on a gas pipeline, which will connect Bulgaria and Greece.
"The project at the cost of about 75 million euros will provide for
the gas reserve if Russia halts gas supplies," Borisov added.
