FAS to report to govt about struggle for competition protection

MOSCOW, July 13 (Itar-Tass) -- The Federal Anti-Monopoly Service (FAS)
has exposed 30% more breaches of the competition protection law than in
the previous year, the FAS will present this statistical data at a meeting
of the Russian government presidium in a report on the state of
competition here on Monday.
Some 40% more breaches of the foresaid law were reported in the
previous year against 2007 (only 6,500 cases), a source in the government
told Itar-Tass. Meanwhile, "the overwhelming majority or 60.5% of law
breaches are committed by the authorities." Another 23% of breaches are
abuses of the dominating position, and over five percent are unfair
competition cases.
The government will also consider the results of levying fines for
violations of the anti-monopoly legislation, the source said. He recalled
that more than one billion roubles of fines were imposed only on
Gazpromneft, Rosneft, TNK-BP holding for offences of these companies
regarding overstated air fuel prices in the previous year.
