FOUR SUSPECTED SWINE FLU PATIENTS IN SEMARANG HOSPITAL

Semarang, Indonesia, July 13 (ANTARA) - Four suspected swine flu patients have been admitted to Dr Kariadi General Hospital in Semarang, Central Java, since Thursday, July 9, 2009, a hospital spokesman said.

"The four patients are currently being treated in a special isolation room for H1N1 suspects," the hospital's spokesman, Dr Agus Suryanto, said here on Monday.

He said the hospital had actually treated five swine flu suspects since Thursday but one of them had meanwhile been discharged after achieving complete recovery.

According to Agus Suryanto, the patients were admitted with fever, body temperatures of up to 38 degrees Celsius, cough, and flu. He admitted doctors initially found it difficult to make a distinction between swine flu and ordinary flu symptoms.

Suryanto declined to disclose the identities of the four patients but said they had just arrived in Indonesia from the United States where they participated in a student exchange program.

But he said their condition was improving and there was nothing to worry about.

Meanwhile, it was reported from Denpasar, Bali, that the Sanglah General Hospital on Monday received another H1N1 suspect after admitting one at 4 on Sunday afternoon.

"At 11 a.m. local time on Monday, Sanglah General Hospital received Made Sutama (49) who was suspected to have been infected with the H1N1 virus," hospital spokesman I Gusti Lanang Suartana said in Denpasar on Monday.

He said the patient was currently under intensive treatment at the hospital's Nusa Indah isolation room.

According to Lanang, the Sanglah hospital on Sunday afternoon also received another Influenza A or H1N1 suspect who was identified as Wayan Wati Rowling (34), a Balinese-born woman who was married to an Australian and had become an Australian citizen.

Following the admission of Made Sutama on Monday, the Sanglah hospital is at present treating eight H1N1 or swine flu patients, namely Made Sutama, Wayan Wati Rowling, Rahmat Irwansyah (30), Yogi Prayogo (Irwansyah and Prayogo are residents of Jakarta), Richard Lochner (40) of New Zealand, Michael Partin (19) of the United States, Stephen Carruters (22) and Heater Casey (54) of Australia.

Asked about the condition of the seven other suspected swine flue patients at the hospital, Lanang Suartana said their conditions were in general improving.***
