Iraq, Iran Sign Joint Security MoU on Border Coordination

Baghdad / NINA / - Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani today received Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Larijani, and his accompanying delegation, to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral relations between Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran in various fields.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office said that Al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to developing cooperation with Iran and expanding partnerships in a manner that serves the interests of both peoples. He stressed Iraq’s firm stance in rejecting the Zionist aggression against Iran and any action that would escalate conflicts at the regional or international levels, reiterating Baghdad’s support for U.S.–Iranian dialogue.
As part of the visit, Al-Sudani sponsored the signing of a joint security memorandum of understanding between Iraq’s National Security Adviser, Qasim Al-Araji, and Larijani, concerning security coordination along the shared borders of the two countries.
For his part, Larijani conveyed the greetings of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Al-Sudani, affirming Tehran’s keenness to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in railway connection projects for passenger transport and linking them to the Development Road and other major regional corridors./ End
