Heritage Commission Screens Film on Young Saudi Girl’s Archaeological Discovery

Riyadh, August 28, 2025, SPA -- The Heritage Commission has organized a screening of the film "Thabyah" at Cine House, highlighting the inspiring true story of Thabyah Al-Shahrani, a 15-year-old Saudi girl. The film chronicles her remarkable journey of collecting unusual stones in her local area, culminating in the discovery of 705 stone pieces in 2014. After expert examination, 19 of these were confirmed as archaeological artifacts dating back to ancient civilizations of the Arabian Peninsula.
The film highlights Thabyah's noble decision to hand over her discoveries to the relevant authorities—an act demonstrating her deep understanding of the value of national heritage and her dedication to its preservation.
The commission took steps to include these artifacts in the national register of antiquities and exhibit them at the National Museum, honoring the early awareness and significant contribution of a young girl to enriching the nation’s heritage.
In recognition of her inspiring initiative, the commission also presented her with a special award, celebrating her contribution that has motivated many.
