Kyrgyzstan’s Cholpon-Ata city to become cultural capital of SCO

Bishkek, Sept. 1, 2025 /Kabar/. — Today, as part of a working visit to the People's Republic of China, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov spoke at the 25th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Tianjin.
The president noted that for the period of the Kyrgyz chairmanship, the city of Cholpon-Ata, located on the shores of Issyk-Kul Lake, is approved as the tourist and cultural capital of the SCO.
Sadyr Zhaparov added that a number of events are planned as part of this, including the anniversary Issyk-Kul intellectual forum, which was first held in 1986 on the initiative of the outstanding writer and thinker Chyngyz Aitmatov.
President Zhaparov also invited cultural and sports delegations of the SCO member states to take part in the next World Nomad Games, which Kyrgyzstan plans to hold in the fall of 2026.
