Kyrgyzstan, China end common border demarcation

.

14/7 Tass 192

BISHKEK, July 14 (Itar-Tass) - Kyrgyzstan and China have competed
demarcating their common state border, the press office of the Kyrgyz
border service told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
"Remaining Chinese hardware was removed and Chinese workers left the
frontier post Mustor of Kyrgyzstan. Thus, the republic legally delimitated
its borders with China. The state borderlines were completely demarcated
and did not change," the press office said.
"The existing border guard system will function in the future as
well," the source said.
China and Kyrgyzstan have been in the talks over demarcation of the
state border since the beginning of the 1990s.
The countries' authorities have to make mutual concessions to resolve
the dispute. Thus, China gave Kyrgyzstan a part of the Khan Tengri Peak,
the second highest peak in the Tien Shan Mountains, while Kyrgyzstan
transferred to China's jurisdiction the mountainous area Uzengi-Kush on
the south of the Issyk Kul region.
