OVs play active role in bridging Vietnam with international friends
Tokyo, September 8 (VNA) – The overseas Vietnamese (OV) community, an inseparable part of the great national unity bloc, has played a crucial role as a “bridge” between Vietnam and the international community, while also acting as ambassadors who convey an image of a renewed, dynamic, friendly, and inclusive Vietnam, according to Le Thuong, Chairwoman of the Vietnamese Association in the Kansai Region of Japan.
Speaking to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA)'s correspondent in Tokyo about the role of the OV community in implementing the Politburo's Resolution 59-NQ/TW on international integration under the new circumstances, Thuong emphasised that OVs also preserve the nation’s cultural identity and serve as emissaries spreading Vietnamese values worldwide, contributing significantly to enhancing the country’s stature and reputation on the global stage.
Regarding the community’s contributionsto improving the quality of comprehensive integration, in line with the spirit of Resolution 59, Thuong highlighted that the resolution offers a fresh approach — one of comprehensive, substantive integration with clear effectiveness.
OVs can participate in a variety of activities, such as promoting Vietnamese products abroad, facilitating investment, transferring technology, sharing international knowledge and experience. Additionally, they can engage in policy consultation, support high-quality human resources training, and participate in cultural diplomacy to promote the image of Vietnam and its people internationally, she stated.
Thuong emphasised that to more effectively connect with the intellectual, financial, and cultural resources of the global Vietnamese community, clear, specific, practical, and transparent policies and mechanisms must be established to encourage their contributions. The creation of specialised institutions, such as a global Vietnamese knowledge network, is essential for gathering and utilising the expertise of Vietnamese people worldwide. Furthermore, accelerating the digitalisation of OV-related services is vital to save time and costs while enhancing transparency. Importantly, approaches must be tailored to different generations of overseas Vietnamese, particularly the youth, to inspire their pride and sense of responsibility towards their homeland.
On current support policies for OVs, Thuong noted that the Party and State have made significant and appropriate efforts in recent years, ranging from citizenship and legal affairs to exchange programmes and conferences for OVs. However, to fully harness this potential, she advocated for the development of a national strategy on OVs closely linked to the country’s development goals amid global integration.
She suggested that support policies should maintain consistency from central to local levels, regularly incorporate feedback from OVs, and create opportunities for their meaningful participation in valuable roles. Achieving this would enable overseas Vietnamese to become a vital force driving the nation’s development in the era of integration and globalisation, Thuong added./.
