Bishkek, Oct. 9, 2025. /Kabar/. The first meeting of the Kyrgyz-Tajik Water Management Commission was held in Dushanbe, Kyrgyz Ministry of Agriculture reports.
The joint commission is being established to strengthen cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in the areas of sustainable water resource management, ensuring access to water and energy facilities, and coordinating efforts to prevent and resolve potential water management issues.
During the meeting, they parties discussed the Statute of the Kyrgyz-Tajik Water Management Commission, as well as issues of attracting investment for the modernization and restoration of hydraulic structures critical to the border regions.
Kyrgyz delegation was led by Almaz Jeenaliev, Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry. The Tajik delegation was led by Z. Davlatzoda, Director of the Agency for Land Reclamation and Irrigation under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The parties noted the importance of establishing a sustainable and institutionalized dialogue on the relevance of water resource management in both countries, which to contribute building trust, regional stability, and economic development.
Following the meeting, a commitment was expressed to continue the commission's work.
