Central Bank warns fake greenback banknotes

(KPL) Central Bank of Laos warned this week that counterfeit banknotes are being circulated in Vientiane Capital, especially in Thai and US currency banknotes.
Head of Monetary Department of Central Bank, Mr Souphet Khodyatha said there is a number of bad element brought fake banknotes to distribute and purchase consumer goods in Laos.
“People should caution to avoid receiving Thai and US currencies banknotes of 1,000 baht and US$100 banknotes are likely to spread in Vientiane Capital and northern provinces,” he warned.
He calls for all sectors to hand in hand to counter against the current circulation of foreign fake banknotes and people can inform police as fast as possible.
He urged people to use kip currency and people should exchange money through the bank system instead of paying in cash.
Carrying a large sum of money in the pocket is now out-of-date and unsafe, he called on.
