Cultural Seminar Highlights Role of Literary Translation in Building Civilizational Bridges at Kuala Lumpur Book Fair 2026

     Kuala Lumpur, June 03, 2026, SPA -- A cultural seminar titled “Literary Translation and the Engineering of an Interconnected Cultural Future” was held, moderated by journalist Ahmed Al-Alkami and featuring Dr. Sami Al-Salmi as a speaker.
   The seminar formed part of the cultural program accompanying Saudi Arabia’s participation as Guest of Honour at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair 2026, and was attended by a group of intellectuals and specialists in translation and literature.
   Dr. Al-Salmi addressed the role of literary translation in reshaping the global cultural map, describing it as a tool that goes beyond language barriers to convey human awareness, philosophies, and civilizational perspectives between peoples.
   He emphasized that translated literature does not merely transfer words, but rather conveys ways of understanding humanity and the world, along with the values, experiences, and deep cultural perceptions embedded in texts.
   Dr. Al-Salmi also noted that literary translation represents a space for civilizational dialogue and openness to the other. The seminar discussed the transformations taking place in the translation sector in the age of artificial intelligence.
   It also addressed the role of translation in shaping the future of culture and its contribution to the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, through enhancing Saudi Arabia’s cultural presence globally, enabling knowledge exchange, and supporting publishing and translation as bridges for civilizational communication and the building of cultural partnerships among peoples.
