Steps Taken to Cope with Disastrous Abnormal Weather
Pyongyang, June 29 (KCNA) -- Kangwon Province of the DPRK strives to cope with the disastrous abnormal weather.
The province has ensured the repair of houses and public buildings in a responsible manner while taking steps to boost the passing capacity of rain-water and sewage networks and prevent feeder pillars and roadside trees from falling by strong winds.
It has consolidated embankments and dredged rivers in the flood-prone sections by raising the operation rate of hydraulic excavators, trucks, etc.
Meanwhile, it has carried on the project to repair the irrigation structures and perfect the drainage system so as to protect farmlands from heavy rain, flood and typhoon, concentrating efforts on minimizing the damage of crops.
Hydroelectric power stations in the province have paid attention to grasping the pondage and variation of water level and protecting the hydraulic structures and equipment from strong winds and heavy rain.
The coastal areas are stepping up the project to repair or reinforce dykes and breakwaters. -0-
