Crime of Japan, Sworn Enemy of Korean Nation
Pyongyang, July 10 (KCNA) -- Before and after the defeat of the Japanese imperialists, many Koreans were killed by sinking of Japanese ships.
The explosion of Ukishima-maru was one of them. After the liberation of the country from Japan's colonial rule (August 15, 1945), Koreans, who were compelled to forced labor in Japan, got aboard the ship with a desire to return to their homeland where their parents, brothers, sisters, wives and children were waiting. But they were buried in the sea all at once by the explosion of the ship.
On August 22, 1945, the Japanese naval transport ship Ukishima-maru anchored at Ominato naval port in Aomori Prefecture, Japan.
At that time, thousands of Koreans, who had toiled and moiled at coal mines and construction sites in the surrounding areas, gathered at the port to return to their homeland.
They, deceived by the propaganda of the Japanese navy gendarmes who said that Ukishima-maru was tasked to repatriate Koreans, got aboard the ship.
That night, the ship left the port and sailed to the south along the coastline of Japan. On August 24 when it reached the vicinity of Maizuru Port in Kyoto Prefecture, the gendarmes veered the ship to the port on the pretext of filling up water.
Suddenly, loud explosive sounds were heard several times and the ship was sunk, broken in two, in the water some 300 meters off from the coastline of Maizuru Port and the Koreans were buried in the sea at once.
After the incident, the Japanese reactionaries claimed that the ship was sunk by a mine, but it was a sophism to conceal their crimes.
The facts that the Japanese imperialists took the Koreans on board by appeasing and compelling them and loaded the ship with little amount of fuel and the Japanese sailors and gendarmes escaped by lifeboats go to prove that the incident was not an accident caused by a mine but a planned crime.
The explosion of Ukishima-maru, widely known to the world, is a deliberate massacre committed by the Japanese government under its plan to kill Koreans. -0-
