Malaysian Muay Thai Fighter Makes History By Winning One Championship Title

KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) -- National muay thai fighter, Ahmad Nor Iman Aliff Rakib or better known as Alif Rakib, has won the ONE Interim Strawweight Muay Thai World Championship title after defeating Thailand's Sam-A Gaiyanghadao on Friday.

In the action that took place at Lumpinee Stadium, Bangkok, the 22-year-old athlete won the match via knockout in the fifth round.

The victory also saw Alif Rakib make history as the first Malaysian combat athlete to qualify to compete for the title.

"Thank you to the Malaysians who came to support at Lumpinee Stadium. I promised to bring this belt back to Malaysia," he said, who also dedicated the victory to his father.

The victory also saw Aliff Rakib win a victory bonus of US$50,000 along with the belt.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called on all Malaysians to give their strong support to Alif Rakib for the match.
