By Ahmad Nazrin Syahmi Mohamad Arif

GLASGOW, July 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s men’s 3x3 basketball team created history by advancing to the quarter-finals of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after finishing second in Group B on Monday night.

In their final group match at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) here, Malaysia, represented by Chang Zi Fueng, Chong Zhen Yang, Ting Chun Hong and Ooi Xian Fu, secured a convincing 21-15 victory over Jamaica.

The national side will take on hosts Scotland in the quarter-finals tomorrow (early Wednesday morning Malaysian time), with the winners advancing to face Australia in the semi-finals.

The other quarter-final will see New Zealand face Singapore, with the winners progressing to a semi-final showdown against defending champions England.

Earlier, Malaysia narrowly lost 19-21 to England in the morning session after notching three consecutive victories over Fiji, Kenya and Singapore.

Under the competition format, the group winners advance directly to the semi-finals, while the second- and third-placed teams contest the quarter-finals.

The 3x3 basketball event made its Commonwealth Games debut at Birmingham 2022.

Glasgow 2026 marks Malaysia’s debut in the men’s 3x3 basketball competition at the Commonwealth Games.
