Indonesia, Cambodia discuss human trafficking and public sector reform

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many on Tuesday to discuss a range of pressing regional issues, focusing on cross-border human trafficking, digital civil service reform and sports diplomacy.
During the high-level bilateral meeting, held at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta, VP Gibran emphasized the need for joint efforts in strengthening governance and bureaucratic reform through concrete initiatives that directly address the needs of both nations.
"Cooperation between our two countries in bureaucratic reform can certainly be further deepened, especially regarding digital transformation," Gibran said during the bilateral session, as stated in his official statement on Tuesday (July 28).
"We want to provide the best service to the public. We want a more agile, corruption-free and transparent bureaucracy,” he affirmed.
Beyond governance, the two leaders held discussions on joint efforts to combat human trafficking (TPPO) linked to cross-border online scam operations.
The cooperation forms part of ongoing bilateral commitments to protect Indonesian citizens working abroad and enhance regional security coordination. The meeting also touched on expanding people-to-people ties through youth engagement and international sports development.
Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Muhammad Anis Matta noted that both nations are keen to leverage sports programs to build closer diplomatic bridges among younger generation.
Specifically, Cambodia expressed interest in utilizing Indonesia's specialized athletic infrastructure for para sports.
According to Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir, Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many requested access to train Cambodian paralympic athletes at state-of-the-art facilities in Solo, Central Java.
"The Deputy Prime Minister is eager for their athletes to enhance their skills and performance at the facilities in Solo, which are considered among the best in Southeast Asia," Erick stated following the talks.
VP Gibran concluded the meeting by reiterating his hope that enhanced cooperation in civil service reform, citizen protection and sports diplomacy will strengthen the Indonesia-Cambodia partnership and contribute to broader stability within the ASEAN.
