NCVC, Morooj Sign Contracts for First National Forest Sustainability Project Worth SAR40 Million

Riyadh, August 13, 2026, SPA -- Vice Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Mansour Hilal Al Mushaiti oversaw the signing of contracts for sustainable forest management projects between the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) and Morooj National Foundation valued at SAR40 million.
The project is the first national initiative of its kind to enhance forest sustainability and preserve their environmental, economic, and social value. It also strengthens the role of the non-profit sector in advancing national environmental objectives.
The plan began with the selection of forest sites to assess their environmental, spatial, and economic characteristics using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing (RS), which enable the analysis of topography, environmental degradation indicators, and climatic factors.
The plan comprises six integrated pathways for sustainable forest management: enhancing forest health; preventing forest fires and restoring fire-affected areas; rehabilitating degraded forests; engaging stakeholders and promoting investment; strengthening forest monitoring; and assessing challenges and risks and developing appropriate measures to mitigate their impacts.
