Sagai Dates: Distinctive Variety of Qassim's Farms

Buraidah, August 18, 2026, SPA -- Sagai dates are one of the local date varieties associated with the agricultural environment in Qassim Region, known for their quality, distinctive taste, and striking appearance that combines more than one color in a single fruit.
Sagai dates are part of the Kingdom's wide range of date varieties. Official data indicate that the Kingdom produces more than 300 varieties of dates, with annual date production exceeding 1.6 million tons from more than 34 million palm trees.
Sagai dates are used for hospitality and occasions and can be stuffed with cardamom and nuts, a common way of serving some Saudi date varieties.
The Kingdom is witnessing growth in the dates and date products sector. Exports exceeded 321,000 tons in 2022, valued at more than SAR1.28 billion, and reached 111 countries worldwide, according to the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.
This growth is part of the development of the Kingdom's palm and dates sector, supported by the adoption of modern technologies, improved quality standards, and the advancement of packaging, processing, and marketing operations, enhancing the presence of Saudi products in local and global markets.
