Vietnam, China bolster cooperation in agricultural trade

Beijing, February 12 (VNA) – Agricultural trade between Vietnam and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China has continued to record robust growth, with turnover in 2025 reaching 18.23 billion CNY (about 2.6 billion USD).

Statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region showed that Guangxi’s agricultural imports from Vietnam totalled 12.09 billion CNY, up 10.8% year on year, highlighting Vietnam’s increasingly important role in the regional agricultural supply chain. During the 2022–2025 period, bilateral agricultural trade maintained an average annual growth rate of 15.2%, with fruit remaining the core area of cooperation.

Thanks to its geographical advantages and well-developed logistics infrastructure, Guangxi is emerging as a major transshipment and distribution hub for Vietnamese fruit entering the Chinese market, while also serving as a bridge connecting Chinese agricultural products with countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Guangxi’s key exports to Vietnam include garlic, onion, hybrid citrus fruits, melon, potato and aquatic products, while Vietnam supplies high-value products such as fresh durian, lobster, cassava starch and fish meal for animal feed.

Agricultural industry chain cooperation between the two sides has become increasingly sustainable through the establishment of the Vietnam–China (Guangxi) agricultural cooperation pilot zone in the former Bac Giang province (now Bac Ninh province), alongside pilot zones for agricultural cooperation in Pingxiang, Dongxing and Baise in Guangxi.

Smart agriculture has emerged as a new highlight in bilateral cooperation. Yang Xiang Group of Guangxi has launched the first fully digitised, whole-chain pig farming project in Vietnam. Meanwhile, technological solutions developed by Jie Jiarun Group have been applied in several fruit-growing areas, helping raise the proportion of premium-grade fruit to around 30%. In addition, the China (Guangxi)–Vietnam smart fisheries cooperation zone project in Quang Ninh province has supported the operation of the first smart deep-sea fish cages in Ha Long Bay.

This year, Guangxi plans to strengthen training for high-quality stakeholders in international agricultural trade, support enterprises in building overseas agricultural bonded warehouses, expand cooperation channels with Vietnam and ASEAN, and promote the joint conference mechanism between Guangxi’s agricultural authorities and Vietnam’s four border provinces. These efforts aim to advance Guangxi–Vietnam agricultural cooperation towards high-quality, sustainable development closely linked with technological innovation./.
