Daily-developing Education in DPRK

 Pyongyang, September 25 (KCNA) -- The law on enforcing the universal 12-year compulsory education was promulgated at the Sixth Session of the 12th Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on September 25, 2012.
Education is steadily developing in the DPRK thanks to the guidance of respected Comrade General Secretary Kim Jong Un who set it as the main link in the whole chain of bringing about a radical improvement in education in the new century to decisively intensify secondary general education and has worked heart and soul to successfully enforce the universal 12-year compulsory education including the work to draft a new compulsory education programme and improve educational conditions and environment.
At the Eighth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, the respected Comrade General Secretary set it as the main tasks to be carried out in the field of education to improve the structure, content and method of education. He called for making innovations in the educational structure at major meetings of the Party and the state and on several occasions and took all measures for it.
As a result, the work to turning the educational course in the sector of secondary education into the new one based on optional curriculum has been accelerated on a full scale.
A proposal for forming classes specializing in science, literature, art, sports and technology at senior middle schools and technical senior middle schools was made and according to it, the second universal 12-year compulsory education programme was worked out and the work to write textbooks according to each school, grade and subject was conducted.
The optional curriculum has been enforced at senior middle schools in Hoechang County, South Phyongan Province, Songrim City, North Hwanghae Province and Jongphyong County, South Hamgyong Province from April last year.
From April this year, the optional curriculum has been enforced at all senior middle schools and technical senior middle schools across the country according to the new education programme.
This made a breakthrough in putting the secondary general education of the country onto a higher stage and provided an important guarantee for achieving a stride forward in education.
Officials and educators across the country have turned out in the work to cement the teachers' forces and strengthen the bases for experiment and practice at schools. As a result, the second universal 12-year compulsory education programme is being successfully implemented. -0-
