Russian tanker to deliver 200th shipment of oil to SKorea.
YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, July 22 (Itar-Tass) - The 200th batch of oil has
been shipped under the Sakhalin-2 project, announced an official in the
press service of the Sakhalin Energy Company (SEC) -- the operator of the
project.
The tanker Ostrov Sakhalin (Sakhalin island) is to deliver about
100,000 tonnes of oil, produced by the Company on the shelf of the Sea of
Okhotsk, to an oil refining company in the Republic of Korea.
SEC Chief Executive Officer Ian Craig has said the shipment of the
200th batch ofoil is yet another reaffirmation of Sakhalin's mouinting
role as energy center of the Asia-Pacific Region.
The SEC has been producing oil on the Sakhalin shelf since 1999.
Originally, the production and shipment of oil were carried out on a
seasonal basis from the Molikpak platform.
Following the start-up of a system of offshore and land-based
facilities, the Sakhalin-2 project switched over to a year-round
production and shipment of oil from the specially built port of
Prigorodnoye on December 12, 2008. The second oil production platform
Piltun-Astokh-B began to operate at the same time.
After gas prrduction from the Lun-A platform began and following the
coming into operation of Russia's first plant for the liquefaction of
natural gas, the export of oil began to gain in scope resultatn of gas
condensate. A new petroleum mixture received the same name as the Sakhalin
Vityaz crude oil (SVCO) brand that has proved its worth over the past
decade.
In all, since the start of the commercial production of oil, the SEC
has produced and exported almost 17.2 million tonnes (126 million barrels)
of the SVCO to the market of the Asia-Pacific Region.
The SVCO is a low-sulphur petroleum mixture with a high content of
light and medium-light hydrocarbon fractions , from which gasolene,
kerosene, diesel fuel, and rawstuff for petrochemistry are produced.
The oil processing and energy companies of Japan, South Korea, Taiwan,
the United States, the Philippines, and Thailand became the purchasers of
the SVCO.
