Kyrgyz authorities ban protest actions during CSTO summit

BISHKEK, July 30 (Itar-Tass) - The authorities of Kyrgyzstan have
banned any protest actions during the informal summit of the member states
of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) that will be held on
July 31 - August 1, the country's First Deputy Prosecutor General Sumar
Nasiza said on Thursday speaking to opposition supporters that intended to
make a many-kilometre protest march to the Balykchi city.
According to him, any attempts at staging protest actions will be
suppressed under the law, but "without the use of special equipment."
About 50-70 people were ready to join a foot march in Bishkek. Kyrgyz
opposition leaders, including ex-presidential candidate Almazbek Atambayev
were planned to walk at the head of the procession.
The CSTO informal summit events are planned for July 31 - August 1 in
the republic's Issyk-Kul region.
