BEIJING, August 7 (Itar-Tass) -- In settling the border problem with
India, China strives to search for a variant which would suit both sides,
spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Jiang Yu said here answering
journalists' questions regarding the 13th round of bilateral talks on this
issue that started in New Delhi.

"Beijing's stand on the Chinese- Indian border problem is consistent
and clear," the diplomat said. "The Chinese side comes out in favor of
joint with India efforts with mutual concessions and respect in solving
the border problem on the basis of principles of a corresponding political
agreement," Jiang Yu stressed. According to him, Beijing also "strives to
search for a just, rational and suitable for both sides variant of
solution of the problem."
Despite all efforts of the two countries, the border problem continues
to be a corner stone in relations between China and India. In 2005, the
sides formulated and signed political parameters and basic principles of
settling the territorial issue. Special representatives regularly hold
meetings to search for mutually acceptable variants of solution of the
problem. However, all efforts of the sides have produced no concrete
results yet. Beijing, in particular, continues to have claims on the
territory of the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, and New Delhi, for its
part, believes that China "illegally occupies" more than 43,00 square
kilometers of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, including 5,000
square kilometers that were transferred to Pakistan in 1963.
