.Glossary of Castro's ideas published in Cuba.

HAVANA, August 9 (Itar-Tass) - A book of most important quotations
from the speeches and interviews that Fidel Castro has come up with over
the past 50 years was the staple of a public presentation held here
Saturday.
'The Dictionary of Quotations' prepared by the Cuban researcher
Salomon Susi includes about 2,000 quotations from the former Cuban leader'
s numerous public statements and interviews.
The quotations have been arranged alphabetically and they carry
references to the dates and places when and where Fidel voiced them.
The book gives the biggest space to Fidel's ideas on capitalism,
education, the nation, revolution, and socialism.
Susi told reporters he views this book as a present for Castro's 83rd
birthday that will be marked August 13.
He believes that the dictionary could be expanded but still it already
provides an overview of the basics of the Cuban revolutionary leader's
"dialectic thinking."
The first batch of 700 copies of the book that was presented to the
public at the Cuban Institute of Book was all sold out to the participants
in the twinkle of an eye and many of them failed to secure a copy for
themselves.
A range or works written by Fidel personally or discussing the former
leader's life have been published in Cuba in recent years.
One of the works he authored is titled 'Peace in Colombia'. It was
published last year.
The subject of the book is the dragged-out armed conflict in that
Latin American country.
In 2007, the French journalist Ignacio Ramonet published a collection
of interviews with Fidel titled 'A Hundred Hours with Fidel'.
It is noteworthy that the latter book proved to be the bestseller at
the 2007 International Book Fair in Havana.

.Turkmenistan marking Melon Day.

ASHGABAT, August 9 (Itar-Tass) - On the second Sunday of August,
Turkmenistan marks a traditional holiday, Melon Day.
"Turkmenistani melons that have been impressing the world from olden
times with their unusual sweetness and a tantalizing aroma are a part of
our heritage, a national treasure of our nation," President Gurbanguly
Berdimuhammedow said in an address to the country's melon-growers
'The queen of the gourd field' is respected as highly here as the
world-famous Akhal-Teke racing horses or hand-woven carpets with silver
threads.
Of the 1,600 varieties of melon known across the world, about 400 or
so were first produced in Turkmenistan.
Apart from summer varieties, there are also winter varieties. The
variety called Wakharman and Gulabi is considered to be the best ones.
The latest ripening melon, which ripens by the time of the New Year in
a suspended position, is Garry Gyz /The Spinster/.
Professional competitions were held among melon-growers on the eve of
this literally sweet holiday. The organizers also brought in some
painters, whose still life canvasses were literally imbued with the scent
of the much-loved fruit.
The glowers and selectors of melons will receive congratulations all
around this country today.
Yellowish mounts of melons and greenish mounts of watermelons are the
landmark features of this holiday both in rural areas and in the cities.
Guests and visitors will be able to taste all kinds of melon, which is
generally viewed by the Turkmenistani people as the healer of a multitude
of diseases.
Scientists here claim that the melon contains an assortment of mineral
microelements vital for human survival in the conditions of hot southern
weather.
A good proof of this will be seen Sunday when according to weather
forecasts the air temperatures will climb to 40 degrees Celsius.
The popular opinion here suggests that melons ripen to perfection in
the heat waves like this one.
