RF youth expedition to Mongolia on Khalkhin Gol battle anniversary.

IRKUTSK, August 10 (Itar-Tass) -- A youth expedition, which is
dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Khalkhin Gol, will go from the Baikal regional centre to Mongolia on Monday.

The expedition mainly includes students from various higher education institutions who
passed a competitive selection under the program, including a scout game,
a battle march to overcome natural and artificial obstacles and an
examination on the history of the conflict, which was held right on the
eve of the Second World War.
Young people from Mongolia will join the expedition on the
Russian-Mongolian border, a source in the expedition headquarters told
Itar-Tass. On the way to the Khalkhin Gol River they will visit
Sukhbaatar, Darkhan, Ulan-Bator, Choibalsan and other settlements, visit
the places of the hostilities, lay wreaths to the monuments to the
conflict casualties and will give concerts for local residents.
After that the expedition will return in the Mongolian capital, where
members of the expedition will participate in a military parade on August
26 that is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the historical events. In
the wartime uniform they will march a separate column in the parade.
In spring and summer 1939 the Japanese troops repeatedly broke into
the Mongolian People's Republic, which had an allied treaty with the
Soviet Union, but were defeated by the Soviet-Mongolian troops on the
Khalkhin Gol River.
The major and decisive battles were held in August 1939 between the
6th Japanese Army and the 1st Soviet Army Grouping under the command of
Corps Commander Georgy Zhukov.

.Muslim young people to discuss terror fight in Kazan.

KAZAN, August 10 (Itar-Tass) -- The 3rd all-Russian festival of Muslim
young people will open here on Monday. The festival is devoted to the
struggle with extremism and terrorism.
"Muslim young people from 30 regions of the Volga area, the Urals,
Siberia and the North Caucasus will participate in the forum, which will
last until August 16," deputy chairman of the spiritual department of
Tatarstan's Muslims Valiulla khazrat Yakupov. The festival will open with
the blessings of Tatarstan's Mufti Gusman khazrat Iskhakov and a common
namaz at the Kul Sharif Mosque.
Then the guests will go to Bulgar, an ancient capital of Volga
Bulgaria. Its residents were the first to convert to Islam on the Russian
soil 9 centuries ago.
The festival program includes meetings with Muslim theologians,
scientists, discussions and round table meetings. Muslim young people will
discuss Islam's role in the globalisation process, the role of young
people in the modern information society, theological education, the
preservation and development of the Tatar language and culture, Valiulla
khazrat said.
The guests will guide excursions round the Bulgar open-air museum with
the historical monuments of the 13th-14th centuries that is put on the
preliminary list of the UNESCO World Heritage. The cultural program also
envisages a contest of Koran chanters, the Sabantuy national holiday,
sport competitions.

.Sinking Sakhalin fishing schooner saved in Sea of Okhotsk.

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, August 10 (Itar-Tass) -- The Koe-maru fishing
schooner, which was sinking in the Sea of Okhotsk, was towed by the Atlas
tugboat belonging the Sakhalin maritime search-and-rescue department. The
schooner, which belongs to the Atlantika Sakhalin company, got in distress
after a hull breach on August 8. The water was flowing in the engine room,
and the crew of 18 sailors gave the SOS signal. The sea rescue tugboat
Atlas came for help to the fishermen.
The Altas towed the sinking schooner to the western coast of Sakhalin
in the vicinity of Katangli in the Nogliki district. The Atlas divers
examined the schooner hull, found the hull breach and plastered it. The
Koe-maru crew is cleaning the engine room from the flooding aftermath.
Another sea rescue vessel Rubin ensures security of the damaged schooner.

.Five quakes rock Russia's Pacific coast, no casualties.

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, August 10 (Itar-Tass) -- Five earthquakes rocked
Russia's Pacific coast. The first earthquake, which was registered in the
vicinity of the Komandorski Islands on Monday morning, measured 4.9
points, the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences said.
The quake epicentre, which was located 220 kilometres west of the village
of Nikolskoye (the Komandorski Islands) and 355 kilometres northeast of
Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, was nested at the depth of 33 kilometres under
the Pacific Ocean bottom.
One more earthquake measured 4 points shook Kamchatka last Sunday. The
quake epicentre, which was located in the Kamchatka Bay 30 kilometres
south of Ust-Kamchatsk, was nested at the depth of 80 kilometres.
Three tremors were also registered near the Kurile Islands of Urup,
Paramushir and Simushir on Saturday and Sunday. The strongest earthquake
measured 4.2 points.
According to Far Eastern seismologists, no earthquake was felt in the
settlements of Kamchatka, Sakhalin and the Kurile Islands.
