Police squad comes under fire in Dagestan, 1 wounded

MAKHACHKALA, August 15 (Itar-Tass) - Unidentified gunmen in the
capital of Dagestan Makhachkala on Saturday opened fire on a police squad
that was on duty at the entrance to the city's central square 30 metres
from the building of the republic's Interior Ministry.
The press service of the Makhachkala police department told Itar-Tass
that "one policeman was wounded in the attack" that took place at about
10:30, Moscow time, Saturday. According to the source, "preliminary
information suggests that the gunmen were riding in a car that was passing
the crossroads in Gamzatov and Dakhadayev Streets."
The Vulkan-5 special interception plan has been activated in the city,
the search for the attackers is underway.
