SEOUL, Aug. 20 (Yonhap) -- Deputy Foreign Minister Lee Yong-joon will visit
Turkey next week to attend an international meeting on aid to Pakistan, his
ministry said Thursday.
During his trip there from Sunday, Lee plans to take part in the Second
Ministerial Meeting of the Friends of Democratic Pakistan on behalf of Foreign
Minister Yu Myung-hwan. The forum is slated for Aug. 25 in Istanbul.
Jointly organized by the governments of Pakistan and Turkey, the meeting will
draw representatives from 20 major nations, as well as the United Nations, the
World Bank and other global agencies, according to the ministry.
"The upcoming ministerial meeting is expected to set the stage for reviving
development since the first meeting and discuss ways to stabilize and reconstruct
Pakistan," ministry spokesman Moon Tae-young said.
Seoul pledged at the last meeting US$200 million in aid to Pakistan over four
years starting in 2009.
