KPK`S ETHICS C`TTEE TO IMPOSE SANCTIONS ON ANTASARI

Surabaya, Indonesia, Aug 20 (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)'s Ethics Committee will soon impose sanctions on suspended anti-graft body's chief Antasari Azhar for violating its code of ethics, a KPK executive said.

"The chairman of KPK's Internal Supervisory Committee, Chesna F Anwar, is now making final clarifications and at the same time asking for Antasari's signature," KPK Vice Chairman M Jasin said here on Thursday.

He said, after the clarifications, the KPK's Ethics Committee would meet to decide the form of sanctions to be given to Antasari. " We still don't know what kind of sanctions he will receive since the KPK's ethical code doesn't mention them specifically," he said.

Though the KPK Chief's Decree Number 06/P.KPK/02/2004 about KPK's Code of Ethics does not mention the type of sanctions that can be imposed on an erring member, a few KPK officials were in the past disciplined for breaking the code of ethics.

"Before we had a staffer taking bribe money and a staffer caught redhanded opening porn website. Only two options were left to them : be fired or resigning. However, in Antasari's case, we will not make any predictions," said the chairman of KPK's Corruption Prevention Unit.

Jasin said Antasari had committed several violations of the KPK's Code of Ethics and also misused his authority while serving as KPK Chief.

"The two-page testimonial Antasari wrote e in detention is actually a radio tape transcription of his meeting with Masaro Chief Anggoro Widjaja in Singapore. Coincidentally, the substance of their meeting is not very similar to the written one," said Jasin who according to Antasari's testimonial was one of the KPK executives who had received 10,000 US dolars in bribe money from businessman Anggoro. ***
