Rukma Shumsher Rana new Nepal envoy to India

Kathmandu, Aug 20 (PTI) Doon School-educated and
Kolkata-born Rukma Shumsher Rana, the son of a founder-leader
of Nepali Congress, will be the new Nepalese Ambassador to
India.
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee on Thursday endorsed
Rana's name for the post which was lying vacant for the last
8-9 months after the then Maoist government recalled Durgesh
Man Sigh, a Nepali Congress appointee.
The announcement comes as Nepalese Prime Minister Madhav
Kumar Nepal is on a five-day maiden visit to India.
Rana's father Suvarna Shumsher Rana was a founder leader
and former President of the Nepali Congress. He was associated
with the 'Mukti Sena' which fought against the then Rana
regime in Nepal and had spent years in exile in India.
Born in Kolkata on March 12, 1936, Rana got education
from Prince of Wales and Doon School, Milfield School, and St
Xavier's College in Darjeeling. He got an MA degree in Modern
History from Calcutta University.
The 73-year-old was also the President of Nepal Olympic
Committee and Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Rana lived most of his life in India when his father was
in exile during the autocratic rule in Nepal. The
septuagenarian has spent about 30-35 years in India on
different occasions.
The Parliamentary Committee, which has confirmed his
nomination to the post of the Ambassador will now send the
name to the Foreign Ministry, which will formally announce his
appointment.
The Committee also endorsed the name of Shanker Sharma
as Nepalese Ambassador to USA. PTI SBP
