Obama Wishes Muslims Happy Ramadan
Washington, August 21, SPA -- U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday
issued an online video message wishing all Muslims a “Ramadan Kareem”
one day before they enter into the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
In a five-minute video message to Muslims across the world, Obama
said of the month: “I know this to be a festive time for Muslims and
a time of reflection and concentration on the reading of the Muslim
holy book, the Quran".
Obama also said that the month is a time for the United States to
focus even deeper on the ongoing betterment of relations between
America and the Muslim World. On the Middle East problem, he pointed
out to the United States work for a two-state solution ensuring the
“rights of Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and security.”
Obama stressed the U.S. “commitment… to a new beginning” in
U.S.-Muslim relations, promising to continue to “engage Muslims on a
foundation of mutual interest and mutual respect.”
During the video, he vowed to “reiterate my commitment to a new
beginning between America and Muslims around the world,” pledging a
“sustained effort to listen to each other, to learn from each other,
to respect one another and to seek common ground.”
