Bill to amend Puducherry disqualification act introduced
Puducherry, Aug 23 (PTI) A bill has been introduced in
the Puducherry Assembly to declare that certain offices of
profit would not disqualify holders of the post from being an
MLA.
The bill, piloted by Chief Minister V Vaithilingam
yesterday, seeks to amend Puducherry Members of Legislative
Assembly (Prevention of Disqualification) Act 1994.
All the 40 government sponsored societies, 13 statutory
corporations, 10 statutory bodies are now being brought within
the purview of the schedule to the Act through the proposed
amendment so as to protect any person holding any office under
the societies, corporations and statutory bodies from being
disqualified for being chosen as or for being a member of the
