UNILA EXPLORES COOPERATION WITH UNIVERSITY OF GAZA

Bandarlampung, Aug 24 (ANTARA) - University of Lampung (Unila) explored a cooperation with the University of Gaza in Palestine at a meeting of the two universities' rectors here on Sunday evening.

Unila Rector Sugeng P Harianto met with his counterpart Syeikh Mohammad Mahmud Shiyam of Gaza University to offer a possible cooperation between the two education institutions.

"We have been cooperating with various universities in Western countries, and if our offer to cooperate with the University of Gaza is accepted, it will be the first of its kind with the university in a Muslim country," Sugeng P Harianto said here on Monday.

Harianto said the cooperation he has offered to the University of Gaza was in the field of science, research, and student exchange program that Unila has done with other countries' universities.

"If our offer of cooperation is realized, it will be a milestone for Unila and the University of Gaza to undertake a joint research in the law, agriculture, and economy," Harianto said.

He said the cooperation offer has been made and that Unila was waiting for a response from the University of Gaza which was represented by its rector, Dr Syeikh Mohammad Mahmud Shiyam.

Meanwhile, Syeikh Mohammad said he positively welcomed the offer and was ready to cooperate with Unila but he should discuss it first with the University of Gaza's management.

"Basically I welcome the offer but I have to discuss it first with the management of Gaza University," Syeikh Mohammad said.
