Allahabad High Court seeks report from police into Joshi case
Lucknow, Aug 25 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court Tuesday
sought progress report from the police regarding their
investigation into arson at Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee
president Rita Bahuguna Joshi's residence in July this year.
The Lucknow bench of the High Court comprising Justices
Abdul Mateen and Ashwani Kumar Singh passed the order on a
writ petition filed by Joshi on August 22, seeking direction
for transfer of the case from Crime Branch-Criminal
Investigation Department (CID) of the police department to
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Joshi in her petition had made Uttar Pradesh (India's
northern state) government, station house officer of
Hussainganj police station, Chief Minister Mayawati, Union
secretary Ministry of Home Affairs, Director CBI and Principal
secretary to Governor as respondents.
The bench issued notices to all respondents, including
Chief Minister Mayawati, and fixed October 13 as the next date
of hearing, Joshi's counsel and senior advocate Rakesh Dhar
Dwiwedi said.
He said the bench directed the respondents to file
counter affidavits in four weeks time and the petitioner to
submit a rejoinder thereafter.
As an interim relief, she urged the court to restrain
CB-CID from proceeding with the investigation in connection
with the FIR lodged on July 16. (More) PTI AVA
