Celebration in honour of Kazakhstani athletes
Taldykorgan, August 26, 2009 (Khabar) - A celebration in honour of athletes has taken place in Taldykorgan before Constitution Day, one of the main state holidays. They are reinforcing the country’s international authority through their victories. Accomplishments of the Kazakhstani sport became possible due to the main law of the independent country to a large extent. It gave equal rights and opportunities to every citizen of the country. Over the first six-month-period, athletes of the Almaty region gained 124 gold and 74 silver medals to their credit. 7 young people won the titles of world-class athletes. Winter Olympic Games 2010 will be held in Vancouver and four sportsmen from the region will go to Canada as part of the National team of Kazakhstan. In addition to that, summer Asian games will take place in Guangzhou and the first Youth Olympics will be hosted by Singapore. Athletes of Zhetysu will take part in them as well.
Turatbek Charapiyev, head, regional tourism, physical fitness and sports department:
- 40 people from the country became both Asian and world champions due to the wise policy of the head of state and the constitution which provided an opportunity for our athletes to enter the international arena directly and show their high performance.
This year, 26 young talents of the country left for studies at the Soccer Academy in Brazil on the initiative of the head of state. Five of them are from the Almaty region. According to their first coach, Yerzhan Omarov, contracts are already being signed with some of them.
Yerzhan Omarov, soccer coach, regional boarding school:
- Two of them were included in the team of the Ole Brazil Football Academy and are participating in international tournaments, the championship of Brazil and displaying good results. This is our success.
50 best athletes receive the regional governor’s scholarship on a monthly basis. The head of region, Serik Umbetov expressed his gratitude to athletes and the coach staff for their accomplishments and promised to increase the scholarship size and bring the number of scholarship holders to 100. It was also noted at the meeting that financing of sport is being increased and sports facilities of the region are constructed and repaired annually.
