GCC Foreign Ministers hold ordinary meeting Tuesday

Riyadh, August 26, SPA -- Foreign ministers of the member countries of the Riyadh-based Gulf Cooperation Council will hold their 112th ordinary meeting in Jeddah on Tuesday, under the chairmanship of Oman's Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs Yousef bin Alawi Abdullah.

In a statement to cast light on the agenda of the meeting,
Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Atiyyah, the Secretary General of the GCC,
said the ministers will have important talks during the two-day
meeting.
They will review the developments of the GCC march over the last
period in preparation to their ministerial meeting which will pave
the way for the GCC summit scheduled for Kuwait in December 2009,
Al-Al-Atiyyah said, adding that the ministers will also tackle issues
pertaining to economy, planning, development, agriculture,
information technology, power grid and collective usage of nuclear
energy for peaceful purposes.
He said the meeting will also review reports on ways of combating
swine flu in the region as well as regional issues including UAE's
Iranian-occupied islands, food and water security, financial crisis,
pre-emptive measures to combat terrorism in the GCC member states,
and situations in Palestine, Darfur, Iran, Lebanon, Iraq, Somalia and
Yemen.
The meeting will also discuss the progress of negotiations of
friendly economic blocs as well as dialogue with Turkey and ASIAN
countries, Al-Atiyyah concluded.
