Janmashtami celebrated at Houston

Houston, Aug 31 (PTI) Janmashtami, the festival marking
Lord Krishna's birthday was celebrated with great fervour in
Houston with nearly 10,000 devotees attending the ceremony
where famous Indian bhajan singer Anoop Jalota mesmerised the
audience with some soulful devotional numbers.

The 20th Annual Community-Wide Janmashtami Celebration at
George R Brown Convention Centre was organised this Saturday.

The celebrations began with colourful processions,
religious rituals besides a well-organised cultural programme
which included 'ras garbha' dance on Bollywood beats, costume
contest for children.

Anup Jalota,the well-known bhajan singer from India kept
the devotees glued to their seats with his well-known Krishna
bhajans.

Traditional Indian food was served during the occasion
there was also had brief message by Satguru Bodhinatha
Veylanswami, the administrator Saiva Siddhanta Church, a
spiritual organisation.

More than 100 performers from over 11 dance schools
presented devotional dances in different languages and styles.

"It is a matter of great pride for all of us Hindus of
Greater Houston that this is the twentieth year we are
celebrating Janmashtami together. It represents the unity of
all of us Hindus," a local organiser said. PTI
