INDONESIAN INSTITUTE PROPOSES ONE-ROOF MANAGEMENT OF FOREIGN STUDENTS

Surabaya, E Java, Sept 2 (ANTARA) - The November 10 Technological Institute (ITS) of Surabaya has proposed an under one roof administrative handling of foreign students by the ministry of education, the foreign ministry and the immigration authorities.

"We had to go to the ministry of education, the foreign office and the immigration authorities to take care of the administrative matters of foreign students," head of the International Office of ITS Dr Ketut Budi Artana said in Surabaya Wednesday.

He said three government institutions often have different regulations, especially that the temporary staying permit (KITAS) also often changes.

"At one time, a KITAS is issued for three, six, and the latest for one year, this caused us problems," he said.

And, he said, ITS once even had to deport a foreign student.

"At the ITS, there are 41 foreign students from 15 different countries. Most of them liked studying in Indonesia, therefore the number continued to increase each year," he said.

He said actually the more foreign students are studying in Indonesia, the better, because Indonesia will become more easily known by the outside world.

The foreign students studying at the ITS came from Iran, Algeria, Senegal, Ethiopia, Myanmar, Lesotho, Madagascar, Kenya, Sudan, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Holland, including PNG.

"Palentine also had a plan to send their students to study at ITS," he said.
