INDONESIAN RED CRESCENT HELPING EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
Jakarta, Septermber 4 (ANTARA) - A team from the Indonesian Red Crescent's Disaster Taskforce (BSMI) has distributed aid packages to quake victims sheltered in some parts of West Java.
The BSMI said in a press release here on Friday (Sept 4), its disaster taskforce team had also been providing free medical services to quake-affected residents of n Pesanggrahan village, Pengalengan subdistrict, Bandung district, since Thursday (Sept 3).
Muhammad Rudi, the head of the team, said as many as 100 people at the refugee shelters received free medical check-ups. Most of them had complained about such ailments as cough, influenza, and fever.
He said his team would keep monitoring the refugees' conditions and provide additional emergency facilities like tents.
In addition, BSMI would also try distribute more food and medicine to the refugees.
Meanwhile, a BSMI team in Tasikmalaya was reported to have distributed relief aid in the Pameungpeuk and Cikelet regions. All refugees in emergency tents welcomed enthusiastically the BSMI mobile clinics and aid teams.
According to Disaster Response Coordinator in East Priangan Reni
Nuraini, most refugees who had their health checked were elderly people and children.
On Friday, Reni added, the BSMI team would move to Cigalontong on account of a lack in aid packages provided to the refugees in need of aid from the government as well as social organizations.
Meanwhile in Sukabumi, BSMI operated a mobile public kitchen which doled out nasi bungkus (packages of steamed rice with some side dishes wrapped in thin, brown paper which are usually distributed as charity to the poor) among refugee.
