ROUNDTABLE MEETING ON AZERBAIJAN-CHINA RELATIONS HELD IN BAKU

Baku, 4 September (AzerTAc). A roundtable meeting entitled “Azerbaijan-China relationship in the context of modern regional geopolitics” was held Friday in the Strategic Research Center under the President of Azerbaijan.
Attending the event Chinese ambassador to Baku Zhang Yannan said Azerbaijan is a strategic partner for his country, adding bilateral cooperation in political, economic, energy, humanitarian and other spheres are developing successfully. The diplomat noted China is keen on enhancing ties with Azerbaijan even more and that the two countries have huge potential for it”.
According to Zhang Yannan, the volume of trade turnover between Azerbaijan and China made up $800 million in 2008. He underscored about 15 Chinese companies function in Azerbaijan, and they have invested $500 million in the country`s economy.
The Ambassador also remembered President Ilham Aliyev`s “productive” meetings with Chinese officials in 2005 and 2008 in Beijing.
Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, the diplomat said China regards that the dispute must be resolved on the basis of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and in accordance with UN Security Council`s resolutions.
