Bandung, Indonesia, Sept 7 (ANTARA) - The magnitude-7.3 earthquake that rocked West Java last Wednesday has caused material losses totaling Rp1.3 trillion in Bandung district, West Java, a regional government official said.

"We and several relevant services in Bandung district have calculated the losses as a result of the earthquake. We estimate the losses at Rp1.39 trillion," head of Bandung's Housing Service Indra Martono said here on Monday.

He said his service was still taking stock of houses in Bandung district damaged by the earthquake.

"We have counted at least 400,000 houses that were damaged by the quake," he said.

He said that his side had not been able to decide the amount of compensation money for each of the damaged houses. But he estimated that the amount of preliminary funds to be allocated for the damaged houses would amount to Rp40-Rp50 billion.

The 7.3 earthquake whose epicenter was located at 8.24 degrees southern latitude, and 107.32 degrees eastern longitude near Tasikmalaya in West Java was also felt as far away as Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and the resort island of Bali.
