INDONESIAN NAVY AIRCRAFT MISSING IN EAST KALIMANTAN

JAKARTA, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- A Nomad aircraft belonging to the Indonesian
navy is believed to have crashed in East Kalimantan after losing contact with
the air control tower at about 1pm today.

Information chief of the Indonesian navy, Iskandar Sitompul, said that until
evening, it had yet to be known the location or coordinates where the aircraft
was believed to have crashed.

"All we know is that it is somewhere in East Kalimantan," he said, as quoted
by detikcom, a local news website.

Iskandar said the aircraft, which was carrying nine passengers and crew, was
conducting routine maritime patrol between Long Bawang and Tarakan.

He said authorities were checking the identities of those onboard.

A rescue team from the Indonesian navy had been despatched to the area
where the aircraft was believed to have crashed, he added.
