Balikpapan, Sept 7 (ANTARA) - Some survivors from the crash of a navy Nomad plane in Bulungan, East Kalimantan, Indoneasia on Monday are being treated at the navy hospital in Tarakan.
"Five people were saved including the pilot and co-pilot of the plane," the head of public relations of the regional police command, Senior Commissioner Rudi Pranoto said.
They are first lieutenant Erwin (pilot), first lieutenant Syaiful (co-pilot), sergeant major Sadikin (technician), Uhip and Muhamir.
"The five survivors arrived at the Tarakan port at 9.45 pm and are now being treated at the hospital," he said.
Erwin, Syaiful and Sadikin suffered serious injuries while Uhip and Muhamir suffered only minor ones, Rudi said.
"Those who died in the incident were Yakob Kayang, Sri Hardi and two others whose identities were not yet known," he said.
The wreckage of the plane was found upside down in a fish pond in Sekatak in the district of Bulungan, East Kalimantan, Rudi said.
According to villagers the plane broke into two with four of its passengers dead and five others seriously wounded lying in the fish pond, he said.
The naval reconnaissance plane crashed while on its flight from Long Bawan in the district of Nunukan to Juwata airstripe in Tarakan at around 11.11 am.
The Nomad type N.24 with registration number P 837 was supposed to land at Tarakan at 14.30 pm but contact with it was lost at 14.24 pm.
The police have sent rescue personnel to secure the scene of the crash as well as to evacuate any survivors, Rudi said.
The spokesman of the Indonesian Navy Commodore Iskandar said earlier in the day in Jakarta the plane was on a routine patrol when the incident happened.
