New identity card with electronic chip in Kazakhstan

Astana, September 10, 2009 (Khabar) - Justice Ministry has demonstrated new identity card with special chip. Micro scheme contains information about owner – individual identity number, address, digital photo and electronic signature. Marat Shabakbayev, chairman of committee of registration service under Justice Ministry says it is not necessary to change old identity cards for new ones and they have equal power. The sum of state due for the identity card also remains the same, 254 tenge. Over 1000 Kazakhstani citizens expressed the wish to change their documents since the new identity cards were put to exploitation.
