City of Perm to remember victims of Boeing crash of one year ago.
PERM, September 12 (Itar-Tass) -- The city of Perm this weekend will
remember the victims of a Boeing airliner's crash near the local airport
of one year ago. Memorials will be opened and remembrance services
conducted, the office of Perm Territory's ombudsman told Itar-Tass.
A passenger Boeing of the Aeroflot-Nord Airlines crashed near Perm in
the small hours of September 14, 2008, killing 88, including foreigners.
An inquiry by the Inter-State Aviation Committee found that the crew's
'inadequate condition and actions' were to blame.
On Sunday, there will be more remembrance ceremonies on the site of
the disaster. An Orthodox chapel has been built there. The Perm Territory'
s ombudsman Tatyana Margolina has told Itar-Tass "the heads of the Muslim
and Judaist communities have given their consent to remembering the
passengers who had professed their faiths in that way."
The relatives of passengers will plant trees along a future memorial
alley. On the same day a requiem concert will be performed at the Perm
Fine Arts Gallery. Memorial services will be conducted at all Orthodox
churches of the Kama River area on September 14.
.Italy's Berlusconi calls for crusade against terrorism.
ROME, September 12 (Itar-Tass) -- Italian Prime Minister Silvio
Berlusconi has said that the struggle against fanatical extremism and
terrorism is not over yet, and this can be seen in the critical situations
in various parts of the globe nearly every day.
"For eliminating hatred there must be determination, courage,
patience, and ability to conduct a dialogue," Berlusconi said.
As he remembered the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the
Italian prime minister said they were a strike not only against the United
States, but against "everybody who appreciates the ideals of freedom and
democracy."
Berlusconi's statement was circulated by the office of the government'
s Quigi palace on Friday evening.
The Italian prime minister believes that the statements US President
Barack Obama made over the past few months, in particular, those addressed
to the Arab-Islamic world "contain the correct message for curbing and
crushing the strategy of terrorism and for resisting the propaganda of
hatred."
Berlusconi said that "a genuine and fruitful dialogue among
civilizations is a sign of strength and tolerance."
.Seventh meeting on security in Transcaucasia due Sept 17 - FM.
MOSCOW, September 12 (Itar-Tass) -- The seventh meeting on security
and stability in Transcaucasia is due in Geneva on September 17, the
Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
"The discussion will proceed in the format of two working groups - for
security and for humanitarian problems," the ministry said. "Russia's
priorities remain focused on the solution of concrete security issues in
the region. This is the aim of Russia's practical proposals to be made in
Geneva, first and foremost, regarding the non-use of force between
Georgia, on the one, hand, and Abkhazia and South Ossetia on the other."|
Such meetings have been held since October 2008 on the basis of
agreements between the Russian and French presidents following Russia's
peace-making intervention that stopped Georgia's aggression against South
Ossetia in August 2008. Taking part in the Geneva meetings on an equal
footing are delegates from Abkhazia, Georgia, Russia, the United States,
South Ossetia, and also delegates from the European Union, the United
Nations and the OSCE. Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin is Russia's
chief delegate.
.Navy's commander confirms emergency at Moskva cruiser Sept 7.
KALININGRAD, September 12 (Itar-Tass) -- The commander-in-chief of the
Russian Navy, Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky, has confirmed there was an
emergency on board the Moskva missile-carrying cruiser on September 7.
"Yes, there was an incident and we interpret it as an emergency. There
was a fire and heavy smoke inside a compartment housing support
mechanisms. This is a hard fact, and I do not deny it," he told the media
in Kaliningrad on the sidelines of a meeting of the Russian government's
maritime collegium.
At the same time Vysotsky said the incident caused no major
consequences.
"The blame for it rests on the personnel. We acknowledge this and the
proper measures will be taken," Vysotsky said. The ship suffered no major
damage and the services of tugboats proved redundant.
"The Moskva cruiser is in normal condition. It is capable of setting
off on a voyage within a two-hour deadline and getting combat-ready in
four hours," Vysotsky said.
In reply to a question from Itar-Tass he said nobody was hurt.
"If there were casualties, a criminal case would be opened.
Prosecutors are probing into the incident," he said.
