Moscow to hold remembrance events on Day of Victims of Fascism

.

MOSCOW, September 13 (Itar-Tass) - Youth organizations plan holding a
number of public actions in Moscow under the motto of 'Not Forgotten, Not
Forgiven' as Russia observers the Day of Memory of the Victims of Fascism
on the second Sunday of September.
More than 400 activists of the youth movement 'Nashi' will get
together at meetings of remembrance and mourning in front of the embassies
of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Ukraine - the former Soviet republics
where nationalistic quarters have been actively rehabilitating the people
who collaborated with Nazi Germany's forces during World War II.
"By organizing these actions, we'd like to spotlight the fact that
some countries in today's Europe still connive at the activity of nowadays
fascists," Nashi's leader Nikita Borovikov told Itar-Tass.
Nashi activists hope to send a reminder to leaderships of the
countries watching benevolently the manifestations of fascism on their
territories that the proliferation of such sympathies may have dire
consequences.
The movement will put up mobile photo exhibitions near the embassies
of the four countries. To commemorate those who fell in fighting with the
'brown plague', the activists will lay flowers by the walls of the
ambassadorial buildings and will lit candles.
Nashi activists also hope to remind the public of the pulling down of
the monument to Soviet wartime soldiers in Estonia's capital Tallinn, of
the attempts to outrage on the memory of WW II heroes in Ukrainian city of
Lvov where insulting billboards with Nazi symbols appear on the streets,
and of the regular attempts to hold marches of SS division veterans in the
Latvian capital Riga.
"We'd like to send a reminder to the European community that states
with fascist inclinations still exist in the world freed from Nazism
decades ago," Borovikov said. "It's in the interests of the entire
civilized community to prevent the emergence of new hotbeds of the 'brown
plague'."
