On 1st anniversary of serial blasts Delhiites remember victims

BLASTS-ANNIVERSARY

New Delhi, Sep 13 (PTI) Delhiites Sunday remembered
the victims of last year's serial blasts by holding special
prayers at the sites of the deadly explosions as families
struggling to come to terms with the loss of their loved ones
blamed authorities for turning a blind eye towards them.

Five synchronised blasts in 31 minutes ripped through
the national capital on the evening of September 13 last year,
killing 26 people and injuring 133 others, for which terror
group Indian Mujahideen claimed responsibility.

People in Karol Bagh, which was the epicentre of the
five blasts that rocked Delhi on the fateful day, organised
special prayers to pay respects to the victims of the blasts.

The blast still haunts them as they continue to live
on the same footpath which was the target of the terrorists.

Parents and kins of the victims say they are still
waiting for the government to provide them with roofs as
promised to them after the incident.

A 'havan' and pooja were conducted at shop no. 2925
in Karol Bagh, where 17 people were killed and around 50
injured in the blast.

"We live in the same place. There were promises by the
officials after the blast but no one has come back to see us,"
said Sondei, who lost three members of her family in the
blasts.

"I am living on the compensation as the bread winners
of my family -- husband and son -- died in the blast," she
said.

Though we received the assistance announced by the
Delhi government, the financial assistance from the Centre is
yet to come through, the victims said. MORE PTI ASJ
