LD ROEMER 2
Pakistan has registered two cases against Saeed, chief
of Jamaat-ud Dawa, for inciting people to launch "jehad" and
inviting donations for the same. However, no charges have been
apparently pressed against him in connection with the Mumbai
attacks.
Islamabad has been dithering to act against Saeed
in connection with the 26/11 attacks, arguing that there is no
evidence, even though India has been maintaining that enough
proof has been given in this regard.
In Mumbai yesterday, Roemer had noted that Hafiz Saeed
had been put on Interpol red flag list recently and hoped that
any action in future on 26/11 would include people like him.
Viewing the LeT as a "regional and global" threat for
the US and India, he had said "It is extremely important that
these six people be brought to justice and put behind bars and
receive sentences commensurate with their crimes against
India, US and the world."
A US Embassy statement here said that Roemer discussed
with Singh his planned visits to the US and a broad range of
bilateral and global issues.
Roemer conveyed President Obama’s "warm greetings
and anticipation at seeing the Prime Minister in Pittsburgh
for the G-20 meeting and for the Prime Minister’s official
state visit in November," the statement said.
"The upcoming official state visit, the first by a
foreign leader during the Obama Administration, is a testament
to the vital importance of the U.S.-India strategic
partnership in addressing our greatest global challenges," it
quoted the Ambassador as saying. (MORE) PTI
