Young scientists to discuss future of Russia's engineering

MOSCOW, September 22 (Itar-Tass) - The future of Russia's engineering
will be discussed by young scientists and engineering specialists from the
Russian Federation and a number of foreign countries at an all-Russia
conference that opens at the Moscow-based Bauman state technical
university (MGTU) here on Tuesday and will continue till September 25.
An MGTU presss service official has told Itar-Tass that the forum's
work will deal with four areas: machine building technologies, power
engineering, special-purpose machinery building, and industrial design.
"Those present at the conference are to discuss a wide range of
matters connected with the use of the latest achievements of science,
machinery, and engineering technologies," the MGTU official said.
"There will be a plenary session, an exhibition of present-day
industrial techologies, and a roundtable meeting on the theme of
'Technical Education in Russia and Quality of of the Training of
Engineering Personnel'. A number of scientific panels will be also at
work," the MGTU press service official specified.

.Uzbekistan launches parl', local election campaign Tue.

TASHKENT, September 22 (Itar-Tass) - Uzbekistan launches a campaign of
elections to the legislative (lower) house of parliament, as well as to
regional, district, and urban administration bodies. The polling day is
fixed for December 27.
Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov, Chairman of the Central Electoral
Commission, has told journalists that all election-campaign activities
"will be carried out strictly in accordance with the basic principles and
requirements of the electoral legislation" and that "the provision of any
privileges or preferences to any participant in the election campaign is
ruled out".
In accordance with the renewed electoral legislation of Uzbekistan,
the number of seats in the lower house of parliament has been increased
from 120 to 150. One hundred and thirty-five members are to be elected in
territorial electoral districts on a multi-party basis. The other 15
members are ti be elected from among members of the Ecological Movement of
Uzbekistan by the movement's top governing body -- a conference -- that
will be held on the polling day.

.Chinaware exhibition to open at Oriental Arts Museum.

MOSCOW, September 22 (Itar-Tass) - A Fragile Perfection china-ware
exhibition opens at the State Museum of Oriental Arts on Nikitsky
Boulevard here on Tuesday. The exhibition will run until the end of
November.
On view will be more than 120 splendid china-ware articles: crockery,
vases, dishes, wall panels, boxes, adornments, and other article made by
craftsmen in different periods -- from the 18th century and to our days.
Chinese porcelain is always present in the permanent exhibition of
the Museum. However, for the first time this exhibition will feauture
china so widely and diversely. The new exhibition includes items from the
Museum stocks, as well as from a large collection of china-ware that was
handed over to the Museum of the Ministry of Culture of the People's
Republic of China in 1957 as a gift.
This exhibition is a reminder that china is a world civilisation
phenomenon on a par with other inventions and discoveries, such as paper,
silk, and powder.
Specialists maintain that china-ware that came into being in high
antiquity can justly be referred to as pages of an 'encyclopedia' of
Chinese life, its history, mythology, literature, and architecture.

.Int'l congress on nano technologies opens in Ufa Tue.

UFA, September 22 (Itar-Tass) - An international congress on
nano-scale technologies opens in Ufa, the capital of the Republic of
Bashkortostan, on Tuesday, with about 300 scientists from 23 countries
participating, an organising committee official has told Itar-Tass.
Alexei Nikin, Deputy Chairman of the republic's Chamber of Commerce
and Industry, said, "Scientific achievements in this field may find the
widest applications in production practice. Therefore, most diverse
sectors, of which microelectronics, engineering, and medicine are the
main ones, will be discussed at the congress in the light of nano
structure research".
A CITOGIC'2009-Ufa forum that introduces new technologies in the gas
and petroleum industries, energy, and communications, will be held within
the framework of the congress.
The forum is dedicated to strategic areas of the technological
development of Russia a world energy power. The CITOGIC'2009-Ufa is held
under the patronage of the President of Russia and under the auspices of
the UN Committee for Industrial Development. It has been organised by the
Academy of Technological Sciences of Russia, Gazporm, and a number of the
country's major oil-and-gas, building, and financial companies.
The first specialised exhibition of high technologies, the second
international symposium on the theme of "Solid Nano Structure Materials:
from Science to Innovations BNM-2009", a series of roundtable meetings,
and panel sessions on various areas of the development of nano
technologies will be held here simultaneously with the congress.
